Nursing Assistant (PRN)

Department: Physical Rehab - Routine
Location: Lake Charles, LA

Physical Rehab-Routine Nursing Assistant

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The Nursing Assistant provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Demonstrates competency in use of technology and computers for patient charting and related functions.
  • Provides physical patient care in a safe manner under the direction of the Licensed Nurse.
  • Performs or assists patient with activities of daily living (showering, bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulation).
  • Communicates abnormal variances of data (vital signs, pain, etc) to appropriate staff.
  • Collects information regarding patient/patient condition: vital signs, intake and output, food intake.
  • Consistently utilizes basic decision making skills to complete routine tasks.
  • Participates in best practices in a consistent and positive manner; huddles, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, Service Excellence, and the use of the white boards.
  • Collaborates with unit staff to provide coordinated patient care.
  • Utilizes unit specific equipment competently.
  • Competently performs unit specific procedures.
  • Is knowledgeable of and actively participates in implementation of Unit PI plan.
  • Makes suggestions/recommendations for improved operations.
  • Follows established hospital/department safety policies.
  • Understands and appropriately responds to the unique combination of cultural variables that professionals and patients/individuals bring to interactions.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate from high school or GED.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid drivers license; CPR certified
  • Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel; Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Requires emotional stability and maturity; Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight; Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.

 

 Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work requires a variety of physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, lifting and ability to get in and out of vehicle. 
  • The work environment may be physically confining.
  • Must have normal hearing. 
  • Visual acuity is required. 
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time. 
  • Good manual dexterity required for keyboard activities. 
  • Ability to work weekends and overtime
