Sports Medicine Athletic Trainer, MS

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The Athletic Trainer is a member of the Sports Medicine outreach team. In this capacity they have a responsibility to the organizations for the evaluations, treatment, rehabilitation, and medical referral to a consultant. Their primary patients are athletes and individuals associated with athletic programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Demonstrates proper taping, strapping, bracing, and fitting of athletic equipment.
  • Develops training programs and routines designed to improve athletic performance on the play area.
  • Ability to accurately evaluate and assess the injury to ensure proper treatment if needed.
  • Carries out all prescribed treatments and recommendations by the team/program/event physician.
  • Cover assigned pre-season physicals, sports games or matches, and related events under the supervision of the program manager.
  • Communicate with parents, athletic coaches, etc., recommendations for handling aspects of care relating to athletic injuries.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • A Masters degree in Athletic Training from an institution accredited by CAATE; NATA Certified; Louisiana licensure.
  • 1-2 years in athletic training setting preferred.
  • CPR certified; Current Louisiana Athletic Trainer license; Annual CEU requirement; Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills; Ability to communicate orally and in written form. Must be detail oriented.
  • Requires emotional stability and maturity; Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight; Exhibits organizational and leadership ability. Must be team oriented with strong interpersonal skills.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Must be able to assist with or transfer athletes of various weights/heights, push carts with athletic equipment on them.
  • Must be able to carry water coolers, athletic training kit, etc. up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must have good mobility skills and be able to walk long distances.
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate to give adequate directions and instructions to subordinates.
