Psych Tech (Full Time)

Department: Archer Adolescent Unit
Location: Lake Charles, LA

Archer Adolescent Unit Psych Tech

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The Psych Aide provides direct contact with each assigned patient to monitor responses to services & identify problem areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provides physical, emotional &/or cognitive patient care in an appropriate, safe manner.
  • Liaison with various departments of LCMH to patient safety and quality care based on patient needs. - Diligent Training
  • Utilizes effective crisis intervention techniques.
  • Demonstrates ability to conduct environment and patient safety duties (i.e.- room inspections, patient search, belonging searches, monitor visitors for contraband).
  • Communicates abnormal variances of physical data (vital signs, pain, etc.) to appropriate staff.
  • Emotional &/or cognitive data (tearful, hallucinating, etc.) to appropriate staff.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma/GED preferred
  • Sufficient experience in working with mentally ill persons, addicted persons or in providing personal care services.
  • Crisis Response Training, CPR.
  • Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.
  • Requires emotional stability and resilience.
  • Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight.
  • Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.
  • Shows ability to gain & maintain support and respect of co-workers.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work requires a variety of physical activities including standing and walking for long periods of time, bending, stooping, and lifting.
  • The work environment may be physically confining.
  • Visual acuity is required for a variety of specific activities.
  • Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive hearing devices if duties require listening with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, and bowel sounds.
  • Ability to do shift work as required.
