Psychiatric Services Director of Nursing (Full Time)

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The Archer Administration Director of Nursing provides leadership and has 24 hour responsibility and accountability for the successful operation of a designated unit/department/service. They participate as a member of the hospital's management team in planning, policy formulation and administrative decision making with particular reference to the role, functions and operation of the unit/department/service. Finally, they are a steward of the hospital's mission and service excellence program.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures which support the Hospital's mission, goals and objectives.
  • Ensures that staff complies with mandatory education, licensure requirements, mandatory health requirements, etc.
  • Develops annual departmental budget and operates within budgetary guidelines.
  • Recommends and ensures appropriate staffing levels. Allocates resources according to priorities.
  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.
  • Gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • Develops alternative solutions.
  • Generates creative solutions and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates persistence and follow through even when faced with adversity or challenges.
  • Balances team and individual responsibilities.
  • Seeks increased responsibilities. Looks for and takes advantage of opportunities.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • MSN preferred; BSN accepted.
  • 5 years of psychiatric nurse experience.
  • Current RN licensure in the State of Louisiana or compact state license; current CPR, ACLS, PALS as required by policy
  • Computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate with patients, family, peers and medical personnel; Basic math skills.
  • Requires emotional stability and resilience; Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrates foresight; Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work may require evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and/or a flexible schedule depending on the needs of the unit/department/service.
  • Requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations and conflict resolution.
  • Must have normal hearing or utilize adaptive devices to listen with a stethoscope to discern breath sounds, heart sounds, bowel sounds.
