Physical Therapy Tech (PRN)

Department: Physical Therapy
Location: Lake Charles, LA

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The Physical Therapy Tech prepares patients and equipment for therapy, including obtaining supplies from storage area and positioning them approximately for use. Assists therapists in monitoring of proper performance of exercises, assists with modalities as directed by therapist.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Prepares patients and equipment for therapy, including obtaining supplies from storage area and positioning them approximately for use.
  • Assists therapists in administering treatments including assisting with transfers or ambulation and gait training to prevent falls.
  • Assists with direct patient care relative to patient's age, culture, and condition under the supervision of the licensed therapist.
  • Transfers and transports patients in a safe and timely manner.
  • Communicates verbally with therapists, assistants, students and other aides to maintain efficient workflow.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma.
  • Prior experience or interest in a rehabilitation field preferred.
  • CPR certification.
  • Basic mathematical skills; Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate well with patient, family, peers and medical personnel.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Work is medium, preferably up to 50 pounds of lifting or carrying without help or over 50 pounds with help. Included is handling patients of all weights, with help as needed, to perform transfers, bed mobility, getting into equipment, and getting into and out of clothing.
  • Positions required include standing and walking on a frequent basis; sitting, kneeling, and stair climbing on an occasional basis; stooping and bending on a frequent basis to assist patients; overhead reach on occasional basis; pushing/pulling on a frequent basis including wheelchairs, stretchers, and pulling or tugging on patients.
