Mechanic I (Full Time)

Department: Plant Operations
Location: Lake Charles, LA

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • The Mechanic I shall perform all assigned duties that may include, but are not limited to safety corrections, cleaning and aesthetic corrections, hazard report corrections, boiler operator responsibilities and general preventative maintenance programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Responds to corrective work request in a timely manner, either by work order or trouble calls.
  • Identifies self to department before beginning work.
  • Writes up request for parts when needed and submits to supervisor, follows up in a appropriate time frame.
  • Assures proper use and care of tools and equipment.
  • Assures neatness of shop area, mechanical rooms and job areas.
  • Demonstrates ability to demonstrate troubleshoot problems, make repairs and select proper tools for job.
  • Is able to understand and perform chemical tests and document results; Plant and Water features.
  • Ability to read and understand sketches, blue prints, weights measures, equipment operational and service manuals.
  • Have a working knowledge of the hospitals Life Safety systems.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems.
  • Has understanding of elevator operation, auto electric doors, automatic gate system and can do minor repairs or adjustments.
  • Basic understanding of hospitals boiler system, domestic water system, sewer system emergency fuel storage system, electrical distribution system.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • High school graduate or GED equivalent.
  • Two years of trade experience or a minimum of four years general maintenance experience.
  • Must maintain a basic compliment of tools as prescribed by department policy.
  • Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English; Ability to communicate with patient, family, peers and medical personnel; Be willing to train for more advanced duties or skills.
  • Must be able to read and communicate effectively and interpret blue prints, diagrams and statistical data; Requires emotional stability and resilience.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Must have good hand/eye coordination and have no color loss in eyes.
  • Must be able to utilize intricate hand tools and testing devices and work with system components.
  • May be required to lift heavy objects, climb ladders and stairs, push or pull varying weights.
  • Must have good manual dexterity and have full range of motion in all extremities, good perception and field of vision.
  • May occasionally work in semi-clean environments.
  • Ability to do shift work as required.
