Director of Nursing Education

Department: Professional Development
Location: Lake Charles, LA

Director of Education

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

  • Provides leadership and project management work that supports the successful operation of the education department. Participates as a member of the hospital's management team in planning, policy formation and administrative decision making. The position requires working collaboratively with all departments and services to ensure continued compliance for regulatory bodies and quality indicators, as well as assisting to develop necessary staff competencies to ensure quality of care.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Coordinates and participates in the orientation process of new employees
  • Creates processes that support new graduate transitions (e.g. residency program).
  • Ensures that required courses and competencies are documented in the learning management system (Elsie).
  • Delegates tasks based on the knowledge, skills, and abilities of the employee.
  • Participates in organization committees and/or shared governance councils.
  • Administrator of learning management system (Elsie).
  • Collaborates with universities to form academic affiliation agreements.
  • Oversees the design of educational activities.
  • Analyzes data to evaluate effectiveness of teaching.
  • Initiates a needs assessment to define new areas for competency assessment and maintenance.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing; BSN required, Masters preferred.
  • 5 years recent RN experience; 2 years acute inpatient specialty experience; 2 years recent management experience; MSN preferred.
  • Current RN licensure in the State of Louisiana or compact state license.
  • CPR Certified.
  • Must maintain required hours of in-service per year to meet requirements for CEUs as stipulated by Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
  • CPHQ preferred.
  • Advanced computer skills.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • Occasional standing, walking, frequent sitting for long periods of time, manual dexterity.
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Light physical effort; repetitive motion of wrists, hands and/or fingers; standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling; frequent sitting.
  • Ability to read forms, computer screens, correspondence and other documents.
  • Work may include work on evenings, nights, weekends and/or holidays to ensure effective productivity.
  • Ability to deal with stressful situations and conflict resolution.
